ADA Accessible Hiking

Recently went with a friend, and all of our children, including her son that uses a wheelchair on an adventure for the day.

After some research we went on the 2 miles RT trail to Rainy Lake in the North Cascades (off hwy 20). The trail is completely paved, and has accessible parking. It leads to a BEAUTIFUL overlook of the lake. It is a popular area, we started early and had the overlook to ourselves for a good 30 minutes.

Upon returning to our vehicles, we stopped to eat our lunch at the picnic area.

After lunch we drove a few more miles down the road to Washington Pass Overlook, has accesible parking and the flat trail to the right, a very short walk and you will be at the main overlook. After this the rest of the loop is not accessible so turn around the way you came.

If you want to keep adventuring, drive back west to the Diablo Lake Viewpoint. (You most likely passed this to arrive at the original hike location) which is arguably the prettiest lake around!

The outdoors can be inclusive, get out and enjoy what our lovely state has to offer! Check out the note about passes to apply for free disability access passes! https://slothhiker.blogspot.com/2020/09/what-pass-do-i-need.html
